Article Syndication
Article syndication is another great way to get free publicity for your book, your website or yourself.
There are numerous sites on the Internet where you can post articles. Other people can then use your article in their newsletters/ezines, blogs or on their sites so long as they don't change it in any way. This is known as viral marketing because your content gets spread over the Internet and more people can see it. If you write a powerful article in your topic area, it can really help get the word out about your expertise.
The gold in this process is in the resource box. At the end of your article you add a resource box that contains your name, a very brief bio and a link back to your site or blog. This can provide you with many links back to your site and that helps with your search engine ranking. You see, each time someone puts your article on their site that link back to your site is also added. Additionally, many people will click on your link to view more of what you have on your site if your article is interesting enough. It's a great way to get publicity.
Here are some of the advantages of article marketing:
- It positions you as an expert on your topic
- You get a link back to your website from each article you post
and each time someone posts your article on their site or
blog or in their newsletter/ezine you get anotherlink
back also
- This works best for non-fiction books but with a bit of creativity it can
also work for fiction
Dos and Don'ts of Article Syndication
- Do make your content valuable and not a sales pitch
- Keep your articles between 250 and 750 words if possible
- Create new content and don't use excerpts from your book
- Use targeted keywords in your headlines and text
- Focus on one topic
- Tips and list articles work great (i.e. 10 Ways to Beat the Blues, or a
list of great gift ideas for a new bride)
How Best to Use Your Resource Box
- Keep your bio short
- Include a call to action (i.e. Click here to find out more about...)
- Include a link back to your website or blog
- Offer a free item to entice them to click back to your site, where you can
collect their email address
- Keep it professional
- Include keywords in an anchored text in your article linked to somewhere
in your resource box
Other Ways to Use Article Syndication
Another way to use article syndication is to contact people who have ezines or newsletters in your area of expertise. Ask them if they accept articles written by others and if so, ask if you can submit an article. Most websites have a contact form or email contact information on them so you can reach the site owner.
Often website and newsletter owners are glad for extra content and you have just positioned yourself in front of their readers, who also happen to be interested in your topic.
Typically, when you provide an article to an ezine you also get to provide at least a short resource box at the end with your name and a link back to your site. Imagine if you get an article published in an ezine with 20,000 subscribers, all of whom are interested in your product or service.
And of course you can also post your articles on your own website where search engines can find them and you are providing value-added content for your visitors.
You can track your articles in article directories just like you track your press releases...with Google Alerts and Yahoo Alerts.
